In Transit

Hey, remember when Peace Corps sent me to live in that dictatorship run by that megalomaniac who built a statue of himself that rotated to always face the sun?  That was crazy.

Let's reminisce, because I still have Seoul and Singapore to hit before Kathmandu:

Thanks, Graylan, for archiving these, even if it made my mom think I had an Internet stalker.

In keeping with the theme of observational lists from my Peace Corps posts, here is a sleep-deprived one for today:
1) Singapore Airlines, you complete me. I ate five meals in 12 hours. TWICE, this involved ice cream. Bless you.
2) Fatherland of Korea, thank you for kimchi.
3) Lonely Planet guides rock, but locals rock more (details to follow).
4) Singapore airport, you win infinity points for having the following:
     a) 24-hr gym and hot showers, all for $11.  I feel AWESOME.
     b) S$40 transit vouchers for all Singapore Air passengers laying over in Changi...WHAAA?! Totally getting a massage on the way home.
     c) a giant orchid garden with fish.

Xo,
Tach

  2. Singapore airport is great. We had 20 hour layovers there going to and from India in 2007. There is a hotel INSIDE security. I forget the prices, but you have to book 6 hours minimum and it is hourly after that. Sounds sketchy, but on a 20 hour layover, you can get a room for 16 hours or so. Enough time to get off your plane, check in, take a 6 hour nap, shower, walk around, get another nap, get up, and get to your flight.
